When you become pregnant, you will have a blood test to find out your blood type and whether your blood has the Rh factor. Most people have the Rh factor—they are Rh positive. Others do not have the Rh factor—they are Rh negative. Problems can arise in a future pregnancy if the fetus is Rh positive and the mother is Rh negative. These problems can be prevented by giving Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg) during pregnancy.

This pamphlet explains

  • the Rh factor and how it is inherited
  • Rh problems during pregnancy
  • preventing Rh problems during pregnancy
  • treatment if antibodies develop
