This monograph is designed to enable obstetricians-gynecologists to:
- Distinguish illnesses that fall within the spectrum of eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, eating disorder not otherwise specified, and binge-eating disorder
- Understand the biologic, psychologic, social, and cultural factors that underlie the development of disordered eating
- Recognize the impact of eating disorders in special populations: adolescents, athletes, individuals with diabetes mellitus, older women, and pregnant patients
- Develop treatment strategies that include a multidisciplinary team approach and referral plan to address a women's medical, psychologic, and nutritional needs
Updated information in this monograph includes the most current American Diabetes Association recommendations for patient care.
